Sign of Cohen

Sunday I went to the Tyler Art's museum. they had a display of Jewish art. On one was this display with a "Sign of Cohen" on it. It was 2 hands making this symbol. I don't know what it is. anyone have any ideas? I have tried to look on line and have not come up with anything. I cant even find a picture.

I could email Susan or Jerry. I bet one of them would know. Or my Messianic friend, Lainie. In fact, I'll do that now. I'll report & let ya know what they say.

Susan here.

I am imagining the sign is the two hands probably palm down, with the two fartherest fingers (from the thumb) together, and then a space, and then the next two fingers together and then a space and then the two thumbs joined together.

If that is what you are talking about, it is the sign that the Priests who were known as Kohainim (plural for Kohain - translated into English as Cohen) when they would bless the people.

They themselves are not giving the blessing, the blessing comes through G-d.

They still do it today, in Israel, in Jerusalem every day, but outside Israel we do it on holidays only. The Kohainim have the prayer shawl over their heads and the congregation stands facing them, but with faces averted as we sing the prayers.

Let me see if I can find a link to a picture here.

Hope that explains what it is. If that is NOT what you were talking about... sorry!!

I thought maybe this was the sign of Coen.

Cohen, Coen, Kohain et al, are transliterations of the Hebrew word for 'priest'.

It is kind of funny to think of the Coen Bros. (Ethan and Joel) having priestly connections to their name. Kind of like the irony of Eugene Levy being a Levite.

Sorry. I guess my weird humor got lost in translation. My link was a poor attempt at a joke regarding the Coen brothers. It looks like McM caught on. I'll let the group judge if it's a good thing for him to get my humor or not.
