Engage 21

I just finished listening to Dennis McGuire speak at the Engage 21 conference. What a great message. I love the way he reached into his pocket and pulled out keys and tossed them in the audience as symbol of empowering those who were listening to the message. I love listening to Bro. McGuire. He seems to be a no nonsense, straight talking guy.

Many who attended the conference (I did not) felt that he did not go far enough. That he was somewhat defensive of the COG and not prepared to move forward very far.

Could it be a start? I agree he did seem a bit defensive. I think I could understand (old dog, new trick...sort of thing). At least an effort was made. Think it is a show?

I don't think it was a show and it was a good start. As the Gen Overseer I'm sure he felt he needed to defend his position.

I have also enjoyed hearing him in the past. I think its difficult for many officials to understand a younger perspective. Many of them have not pastored or been on the bottom rung of the ladder in a loooong time.

I have watched the videos of the conference on YouTube and he was very defensive in some ways... I too think he is a good man but I think it's a little late in his tenure to start major change.(3 months left) Whoever is next in charge will have a totally different agenda... He spoke of how much growth the church has seen since 1970 something... The question is how much of that growth has come over the last 5 years? What has happened in that time that has promoted needed change?

Just food for thought! Miss you guys!

Hey Tony,

Has the growth slowed or went down hill in the last 5 years? Any thoughts about who will be the next head guy in charge?
